In these class periods we did the following:

We went over the Unit 1 Mastery Test and graphed our mastery levels on our new pink Mastery Tracking Sheets to be kept in the “Trackers” section of our binders.

We organized our binders to have 4 sections:

1. Trackers: Mastery Tracking Sheets, any reflections we do on our mastery/grades/scores, etc.

2. Vocabulary: Morphological Magic Chart, Vocabulary Charts for English Class

3. Writing: Notes on writing essays, drafts and brainstorming, etc.

4. Notes: Your spiral notebook should be kept in this section with the rings, anything else I specifically tell you to put here

Then, we went over Cornell Notes for Compare/Contrast essays:

•Make your right-hand corner headings look like this on every page:

Name

Topic: Compare/Contrast Essays

Source: Lecture/Posters

Date: 10/     /12

•On the top line of the paper, you should have the objective. You didn’t write the objective? Then write this: SWBAT brainstorm, outline, draft, edit, and finalize a compare/contrast essay
•You should have your paper divided as the Cornell Notes Handout models
–Left side for Main Idea/Questions you generate
–Right side for the notes you paraphrase from the board
–Bottom Summary section is the last 5 lines of the paper reserved for you to summarize your notes—you should be filling up these lines!
–You do not need a new page for each step, you can continue to fill up the pages (front and back) as long as you leave summary space at the bottom of each page

Homework was assigned:

•For BDAY —Due Tuesday October 23 for QUIZ grade (Quarter 2)
For ADAY—Due Monday October 22 for QUIZ grade (Quarter 2)
•Completed Cornell Notes for Compare/ Contrast Essays
–Every step
–Every Left Side Column has at least 4 questions labeled with DOK levels
•At least one “easy” question
•At least two “medium” questions
•At least one “hard” question
–Summary is filled (written in YOUR OWN WORDS)
•Approximately 4 sentences
